"American Pie" is a comedy about four high school senior boys who make a pact to lose their virginity before the end of the school year. This alone makes it almost touchingly old-fashioned; I did not know Hollywood still permitted high school seniors to be virgins.
The 20th anniversary of "American Pie" in 2019 met with some backlash on news and social media over the film's more dated aspects. Particular scrutiny was paid to the hidden camera scenes involving foreign exchange student Nadia, played by Shannon Elizabeth.Looking back, Elizabeth said these scenes were "problematic" in the post-#MeToo era, and would never have been approved these days.
